Exhibitions
The Museum of the 20th Century in Hoorn has been surprised with a donation of over 500 Barbie dolls. The enormous collection was amassed over many years by Marja Smallenburg from Zeeland and recently collected by the museum's truck. A large portion of the collection is now displayed in twelve display cases, from Elvis to Ken, from James Dean to Barbies in the most beautiful outfits. But also some cool dolls, as Barbie has been in space, worked for the fire department, and can be seen in military uniforms. Barbie has had over 200 careers, from veterinarian and astronaut to pop star and president.
The Work and Art of Julian Kalinowski
The Work and Art of Julian Kalinowski, an exceptional art book that for the first time presents the life's work of this extraordinary puppet artist in all its depth, will be published at the end of January.
On 220 full-color pages, this beautifully produced hardcover book brings together photographs of iconic dolls, early sketches, drawings, and personal stories that reveal Julian's artistic development and unique signature.
The book was designed by Fokke Hoekman, whose clear and elegant design gives the works the space they deserve. The edition is strictly limited and aimed at collectors, enthusiasts of exclusive art publications, and unique stories.
